Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG Debuts on October 15

Mahindra is bringing a CNG version of the XUV 3XO to market, and it has set the date. A teaser released by the company confirms the CNG variant will debut on October 15. Beyond that, the carmaker has not shared a single technical detail.

What We Know

The date is the only confirmed fact. Mahindra has not disclosed the engine, power output, tank capacity, boot space, variants or price. The company is expected to reveal those at the debut.

The XUV 3XO itself starts at Rs 7.79 lakh (ex-showroom) in its current form, according to coverage of the teaser, so the CNG version will sit above that.

What To Expect, and What Is Only Speculation

Reports say the CNG model is likely to use the 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which makes around 110bhp and 200Nm on petrol. CNG output will probably be lower, but no figures exist yet. Treat the engine choice as unconfirmed.

The bigger question is boot space. The XUV 3XO already has one of the smallest boots in its segment, and a CNG cylinder normally takes cargo space. It is not clear whether Mahindra will use a single tank under the floor, a single tank in the boot or two smaller tanks. It is also unclear whether a spare wheel will be offered.

The Competition

The XUV 3XO will be only the third compact SUV in India with a factory-fitted CNG option. The two existing rivals, with prices as listed in coverage:

  1. Tata Nexon i-CNG: Rs 8.35 to 13.42 lakh
  2. Maruti Brezza S-CNG: Rs 9.4 to 11.76 lakh

Both have an established head start, and Mahindra will have to price the CNG XUV 3XO carefully to compete with them. Details of the existing range are on Mahindra's website.

Why It Matters

CNG has become a popular way to cut running costs, especially for buyers who drive in cities. A new entrant from a brand known for SUVs adds choice, and it may push rivals on price.

The real questions are practical: what the boot looks like after the tank goes in, what the mileage claim is, and how much extra Mahindra charges over the petrol model. We will update this story as soon as the company shares numbers on October 15.
