Hyundai Reveals Bayon, Launch Set for October 26

Hyundai Motor India has fully revealed the Bayon and set its launch for October 26. The company is taking bookings for Rs 11,000, and the price will come only on launch day. The reveal on October 12 adds the first confirmed engine, gearbox and feature details to a car we have been following since its design sketches.

Engine and Gearboxes

The Bayon uses a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine rated at 115PS (84.4kW) and 144Nm. Drivespark says it is the same unit as in the Creta. Buyers get a six-speed manual or Hyundai's Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), a CVT-type automatic. One outlet calls the automatic a CVT, which is the same family of gearbox. The reports we reviewed list no other engine option.

Screens and Software

This is where Hyundai is spending its effort:

  1. Displays: dual 12.3-inch curved screens, 62.5cm across combined, for infotainment and the driver's display.
  2. Voice assistant: Hyundai's first generative AI voice assistant in India, built on Perplexity intelligence and SoundHound AI voice technology. It works in English only.
  3. Offline commands: more than 500 embedded voice commands that work without a network in English, Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil, Bengali and Telugu.
  4. Infotainment: the connected-car navigation cockpit is described as NVIDIA-accelerated, with split-screen and user profiles.
  5. Connectivity: Bluelink with more than 70 connected features, and over-the-air updates for up to 19 controllers. Hyundai says updates depend on its discretion and network availability.

The cabin also carries wireless charging, paddle shifters and a central drop-down climate panel with physical controls, which will matter to buyers who dislike touch-only climate settings.

Design

The styling follows Hyundai's "Art of Steel" language, with split headlamps, LED daytime lamps in an "H" pattern, pull-type door handles, petal-style alloys, a roof spoiler and a tall, boxy stance. Carlelo reports a length of about 4.2 metres, but Hyundai has not published dimensions, so treat that as unconfirmed.

Where It Sits

Hyundai positions the Bayon between the Venue and the Creta. Drivespark names the Maruti Victoris as a rival. An expected price range of Rs 9 to 14 lakh (ex-showroom) is circulating in the same report, but Hyundai has not confirmed any figure.

What Is Still Unknown

  1. The price and variant list
  2. Safety features and any crash rating
  3. Boot space and exact dimensions
  4. A fuel-saving CNG option, which reports describe in inconsistent terms
  5. Type approval: Hyundai says it has applied for the certificate, but it has not been granted yet

Deliveries are expected to begin in the festive season, with a timeline due at launch. Tarun Garg, MD and CEO of Hyundai Motor India, called the Bayon an "Intelligent Utility Vehicle" that puts technology and convenience at the centre of the customer experience.

Why It Matters

The Bayon reportedly shares the Creta's engine but sits below it in Hyundai's range, so the pricing on October 26 will decide who buys it. The AI assistant is a talking point, but safety and value will drive the real decisions. For official details, see Hyundai India. We will update this story at launch.
