The Bajaj Pulsar N250 SS has reached dealerships ahead of an official launch, according to reports from Autocar India, Rushlane and BikeDekho on October 13 and 14. Bajaj has not announced a launch date, a price or a full specification, so everything below comes from dealer-stock photos and trade reporting, not the company.
What Changes
The N250 has been on sale with a five-speed gearbox and a basic display. The reported update brings:
- Gearbox: a six-speed unit in place of the five-speed, which should help relaxed highway cruising.
- Quickshifter: a bi-directional unit, which Rushlane calls the Sports Shifter.
- Display: a five-inch colour TFT with Google Maps mirroring, plus document storage, a lap timer, gear position and traction control indicators, according to Rushlane.
- Riding modes: five modes: Sport, Road, Rain, Off-road and Tour. BikeDekho also reports ride-by-wire throttle and switchable traction control.
- Controls and extras: revised handlebar switchgear with a directional pad and a hazard button, reach-adjustable brake and clutch levers, and a USB Type-C charging port.
- Tyres: a radial rear tyre. BikeDekho gives the sizes as 110-section at the front and 140-section at the rear.
The golden upside-down fork, rear monoshock, disc brakes at both ends and dual-channel ABS are said to carry over.
Styling
The SS gets a red-and-black scheme similar to the N160 SS: glossy black bodywork with red graphics, red alloy wheels, red pillion grab rails and N250 SS badges on the rear side panels. The tank, projector headlamp and split seat stay the same.
Where the Reports Disagree
- Engine: Rushlane reports a slight rise to 25PS and 22Nm. Autocar India lists the current figures of 24.5hp and 21.5Nm and says any increase is not confirmed. BikeDekho expects more power but adds that nothing is official, and it also claims a four-valve head, which the other outlets do not mention. We are treating the power figure and the valve count as unconfirmed.
- Price: the standard N250 starts at Rs 1.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), per Autocar India. Rushlane quotes a dealer price of Rs 1,59,650 for the top variant, and BikeDekho estimates about Rs 1.60 lakh. Autocar India gives no price. Treat all of these as unofficial.
The Competition
Autocar India names the Suzuki Gixxer 250, priced at Rs 1.85 lakh, as the main rival. If the dealer price holds, the N250 SS would cost about Rs 25,000 less than the Gixxer while offering a TFT, a quickshifter and an extra gear.
Why It Matters
Bajaj has been working through the Pulsar range one model at a time, and this update would bring the 250 in line with the newer TFT-equipped Pulsars. The open question is price: if the SS adds about Rs 15,000 to the current N250, the extras would be easy to justify. See the full range on Bajaj Auto's website. We will update this story once Bajaj confirms the launch.
