Kinetic EV has expanded its DX lineup with larger battery options, and the update comes with a genuine trade-off worth understanding before buyers assume bigger automatically means better. The new DX+ 3.1kWh variant is priced at Rs 1,27,650, ex-showroom Pune, while an updated base DX with a 3kWh pack costs Rs 1,18,599.

The Range Gain Is Real, But So Is the Fine Print

Here's the headline number: the DX+ 3.1kWh carries a certified IDC range of 132km, up from 105km on the existing 2.6kWh version. Kinetic has also published a more honest real-world estimate alongside the certified figure — 105-110km — a genuinely useful practice that not every manufacturer bothers with, given how far IDC and certified figures typically drift from actual daily riding conditions.

That 17-27km gap between the certified and real-world numbers is worth remembering as a general rule, not just for this scooter specifically — lab-cycle range claims across the industry routinely run higher than what riders experience once traffic, AC-adjacent weather, and varied riding modes enter the picture.

Where the Range Actually Comes From

Here's the detail that separates this update from a simple "bigger battery, more range" story. The DX+ 3.1kWh doesn't just add battery capacity — it pairs that larger pack with a de-tuned motor. Peak output drops to 3.8kW, down from 4.78kW on the existing 2.6kWh DX+ variant. That's a genuine 1.2kW reduction in exchange for 27km of certified range.

The practical consequence: the new 3.1kWh variant only offers Range and Power riding modes. Turbo mode — available even on the smaller-battery base DX — isn't offered on this larger-battery version at all. For buyers who prioritise quick acceleration or higher top-end performance over maximum range, that's a meaningful omission to weigh against the range improvement.

What Stays the Same Across Both Variants

Beyond the battery and motor changes, the DX+ 3.1kWh carries over the features that have defined the DX nameplate: the distinctive all-metal body, an 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster, 37-litre underseat storage, keyless go with password-based ignition, Easy Flip footrests, cruise control, telematics, and a front disc brake. Colour options remain identical across both battery sizes — Red, Blue, Black, Grey, and White.

K-Coast Tech, Kinetic's proprietary regenerative braking system, also carries over, recovering energy during deceleration to help stretch real-world range slightly beyond what the battery capacity alone would suggest. Charging from 0-80% takes approximately three hours regardless of which battery size a buyer chooses, and the battery pack itself carries IP67 water and dust resistance, relevant given how much of India's riding season involves monsoon conditions.

Why LFP Chemistry Matters for This Update Specifically

The new 3.1kWh pack uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry, generally recognised for better thermal stability and a longer usable lifecycle compared to more common lithium-ion alternatives. For a scooter positioned around everyday reliability and practicality — themes Kinetic has leaned into throughout the DX nameplate's history — that chemistry choice reinforces the durability pitch rather than just chasing the biggest possible range number.

What Kinetic's Leadership Said

Ajinkya Firodia, Managing Director and Vice Chairman of Kinetic EV, framed the update around continuity rather than reinvention: "The DX has always stood for practicality, reliability and a design that connects with generations of Indian consumers. With the new 3.1 kWh LFP battery, we are taking that familiar experience a step forward by offering greater range, enhanced performance and greater confidence for everyday riding."

A Bigger Ambition Behind This Specific Update

Here's context worth noting beyond the spec sheet. Kinetic is reportedly evaluating exporting the India-manufactured DX scooter to seven international markets. A variant with genuinely stronger range fits that ambition directly — export markets often demand range figures competitive with whatever's already established locally, and a 132km certified figure gives Kinetic a stronger card to play internationally while simultaneously strengthening its domestic value proposition.

The Real Choice for Buyers

For anyone shopping the DX range right now, the decision genuinely comes down to priorities rather than a straightforward upgrade path. Riders who cover longer daily distances and rarely need quick bursts of acceleration get real, tangible value from the 3.1kWh variant's extra range. Riders who value snappier performance, or who simply don't need the additional range for their typical commute, may find the base DX 3kWh — or even sticking with the existing 2.6kWh DX+ where still available — a genuinely better fit, Turbo mode included.
