VariantEx-showroom price (introductory)
StandardRs 1.27 lakh
ProRs 1.37 lakh

The reports we reviewed do not list the previous prices, so we cannot say by how much they rose.

What Each Variant Gets

  1. Standard: telescopic front forks, a mechanical throttle, dual disc brakes, single-channel ABS and an LCD console. Colours are Firestorm Red and Pearl Black.
  2. Pro: this is the former Combat Edition. It adds ride-by-wire with Rain, Road and Sport modes, cruise control, 37mm KYB upside-down front forks, a preload-adjustable monoshock, dual-channel ABS and larger discs (276mm front, 220mm rear). One report adds a drag-race timer. Colours are Pro Red and Pro Black.
  3. Carbon: everything on the Pro, plus a multi-colour TFT display that Hero says carries more than 60 features. Colours are Carbon Red, Carbon Black, Carbon Grey and Abrax Orange.

Hero has also sharpened the styling around the fuel tank and rear seat cowl.

Engine

The engine stays an oil-cooled four-valve single of roughly 164cc. Reports give the capacity as 163cc to 164.32cc, so check the figure on the spec sheet. Peak power is 17.1 (PS or hp) at 8,750rpm, a small rise from the earlier 16.9, and torque is unchanged at 14.6Nm at 6,500rpm. The gearbox has five speeds. Hero claims 0 to 60kmph in 4.4 seconds. Seat height is 805mm and the kerb weight is 149kg on all three variants.

Xtreme 250R

The Xtreme 250R keeps its 250cc liquid-cooled engine, which makes 30PS at 9,250rpm and 25.3Nm at 7,500rpm, with a claimed 0 to 60kmph time of 3.2 seconds. The refresh adds:

  1. a bi-directional quickshifter;
  2. four ride modes;
  3. cruise control;
  4. frequency-selective damping on the rear suspension;
  5. a tyre pressure monitoring system.

The price is Rs 1.98 lakh. One report calls this the Xtreme 250R Carbon, while another lists it as the single 250R variant. We could not settle which is correct, so ask your dealer which version the price applies to.

Bookings and Deliveries

Bookings are open. One report says they opened on October 17, and deliveries begin on November 1. Another report says deliveries start in November without a date.

Rivals

The Xtreme 160R 4V competes with the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 and the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. One report calls the 160R's cruise control a segment-first feature. The right variant depends on your budget: the Standard is the simple one, while the Pro and Carbon cost Rs 10,000 to Rs 14,000 more for the electronics. Specifications and dealer details are on Hero MotoCorp's website.
