Kia India has posted its highest-ever monthly sales since entering the market, dispatching 32,017 units in September 2026 — up 41% from 22,700 units in the same month last year, and the first time the company has crossed 32,000 units in a single month.
How The Quarter And Year Are Shaping Up
Here's the broader trend behind this single month's number. Kia's Q3 2026 sales reached 89,259 units, up 38.5% from 64,443 units in the same quarter last year. Cumulative January-September sales stand at 2,53,008 units, up 22.5% from 2,06,582 units during the corresponding period in 2025. September itself represented a 10.2% increase over August's 29,042 units — meaning growth has been accelerating month-on-month, not just holding steady year-on-year.
Notably, Kia was the only manufacturer among India's top five carmakers to post both month-on-month and year-on-year growth in September, according to reporting on the broader industry sales data for the month.
Where The Volume Is Actually Coming From
The Seltos and Sonet remain the backbone of Kia's business. Atul Sood, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Kia India, confirmed the second-generation Seltos has averaged more than 10,000 units a month since its January launch — a genuinely strong sustained pace for a single model. Based on the most recent detailed model-level data available (August), the Seltos and Sonet together accounted for more than 70% of Kia's total monthly volume, with Seltos at 11,716 units and Sonet at 9,048 units that month.
The Sorento's First Full Month
Here's the detail that gives September particular significance beyond the raw sales number. This was the first complete month of sales for the Sorento, which we covered in detail at its launch — priced from Rs 27.99 lakh with diesel and strong-hybrid powertrain options. The Sorento will never challenge the Seltos or Sonet on volume; it added just 365 units in its partial first month (August). But its role isn't about chasing numbers — it gives Kia a genuine premium SUV presence and, as Sood put it, reinforces "our strategy of expanding into new segments and powertrain categories in line with evolving customer aspirations."
A Deliberately Broad Powertrain Strategy
September's growth comes as Kia has been expanding its portfolio across multiple fronts simultaneously — the Sorento, the Syros EV, and CNG versions of the Carens and Carens Clavis, all joining the existing Seltos and Sonet lineup. That's consistent with the multi-powertrain approach we've tracked through Kia's own recent moves this year, including its selective October price revision and the broader CNG, hybrid, and EV expansion across the Carens Clavis range.
Why This Record Month Matters
A record month arriving specifically during the lead-up to India's festive season is a meaningful signal for Kia heading into the industry's highest-volume buying period. With the Seltos sustaining a genuinely strong monthly pace, the Sonet holding steady in the sub-compact segment, and the Sorento now contributing its first full month of volume, Kia enters the festive stretch with broader-based momentum than it's had in previous years — rather than relying on a single model to carry the entire month's growth story.
