Jaguar has finally shown the car that is meant to reset the brand. The Type 01, an all-electric four-door grand tourer, was unveiled at an event in New York on October 6 (early October 7 in India), and it carries a numbers sheet that no Jaguar has come close to before.
For Indian buyers, the practical question is when and at what price. That answer is still thin.
What Jaguar Has Confirmed
Three electric motors, one at the front and two at the rear, produce about 1,000PS (roughly 1,016bhp on one conversion, 1,030hp on another) and 1,365Nm. Jaguar claims 0-100kph in 3.2 seconds.
A 118kWh usable battery sits behind an 850-volt architecture. Claimed range is up to 720km on the WLTP cycle, which drops to about 644km on the stricter EPA cycle. Charging at up to 350kW adds around 321km in 13 minutes, and a 10-80% top-up takes roughly 22 minutes, according to figures published in the reveal coverage.
Design and Interior
The body is aluminium, over 5.2 metres long and only about 1.4 metres tall. It rides on 23-inch wheels. There is no rear window; cameras replace it. The doors are frameless and close flush with the body. Inside, there are four individual seats separated by a central spine, a large OLED display, Danish wool upholstery and brass detailing. Boot space is around 450 litres.
Jaguar managing director Rawdon Glover summed up the philosophy: "It's Jaguar first, and it's just enabled by its EV powertrain."
Price and Timing Abroad
In the UK, the Type 01 starts at around £130,000. Well-equipped cars sit near £150,000, and bespoke versions go beyond £200,000. Order books open in early 2027, with first deliveries in the second half of 2027. Production is at Solihull. About 50,000 people have registered interest, and 80% of them are new to Jaguar, according to one report.
The India Angle
Jaguar belongs to Jaguar Land Rover, which is owned by India's Tata group, so this brand has a closer connection to India than most luxury marques. Indian coverage expects the car to arrive here during 2027, and one listing puts the expected price near Rs 3 crore. Both are estimates, not announcements.
JLR India has not confirmed a launch date, a price or whether the car would come as a fully imported unit. Until it does, treat any rupee figure as a placeholder.
Why does this matter? India's luxury EV segment is growing, but it has few pure performance options. If the Type 01 does arrive, it would sit well above anything Jaguar has sold here recently.
What Is Not Confirmed
India price, import route, launch month and booking amount are all unconfirmed. We will update this story when JLR India says something official.
