BMW has launched the facelifted 7 Series and i7 in India, pricing both at Rs 1.95 crore, ex-showroom, for their respective entry trims. The update marks a mid-life refresh for the G70-generation flagship, arriving roughly four years after the range first went on sale in India.
Local Assembly Reaches a Genuine Milestone
Here's the detail that stands out beyond the pricing itself. Both the 7 Series and the i7 eDrive50 will now be locally assembled at BMW's Chennai plant, making India only the second country outside Germany where the i7 is manufactured — a genuinely significant manufacturing milestone for BMW's India operations, and one that likely explains how the brand has kept pricing roughly Rs 10 lakh above the outgoing model rather than a steeper increase.
The range-topping i7 M70 xDrive remains a CBU import from Germany, priced separately at Rs 2.65 crore.
Three Powertrains, One Range
BMW is offering three distinct configurations under this update. The 740i runs a 3.0-litre inline-six turbo-petrol producing 400hp and 540Nm, completing 0-100kmph in 5.4 seconds with a 250kmph limited top speed.
The i7 eDrive50 gets a genuinely meaningful upgrade: a new 112.5kWh battery pack pushing WLTP-claimed range to 728km, up 125km over the outgoing model. It produces 455hp and 600Nm, with a 0-100kmph time of 5.5 seconds.
The new addition is the i7 M70 xDrive, which BMW is calling the most powerful 7 Series ever offered. Dual motors combine for 680hp and up to 1,100Nm with Launch Control engaged, cutting the 0-100kmph sprint to just 3.8 seconds while still returning a claimed 686km WLTP range.
Charging and Everyday Numbers
Both electric variants support up to 250kW DC fast charging, with BMW claiming a 10-80% charge in around 28 minutes. Buyers also get a complimentary 22kW wallbox charger with installation included.
A Genuinely Overhauled Interior
The cabin update draws inspiration from BMW's newer Neue Klasse design language. Highlights include a 14.6-inch passenger display, a panoramic head-up display stretching across the full width of the windscreen, and a 31.3-inch 8K theatre screen for rear passengers paired with a Bowers & Wilkins sound system. Rear seats now recline to a 43-degree torso angle as part of an enhanced executive lounge package, and automatic radar-based doors with soft-close function round out the top-tier comfort additions.
Exterior changes are led by a new illuminated kidney grille, redesigned crystal headlights, flush door handles, and new rear light units — all wrapped around dimensions that stay firmly in full-size luxury territory: 5.3 metres in length with a 3.25-metre wheelbase.
Where It Sits Against the S-Class
The 7 Series and i7 continue to compete directly against the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and EQS, both of which received their own facelift earlier this year. At Rs 1.95 crore, BMW's updated flagship undercuts the S-Class, priced between Rs 2.20-2.38 crore, by as much as Rs 43 lakh — a meaningful pricing gap that gives BMW a genuine value argument in a segment where buyers are otherwise comparing two extremely similar propositions.
What Happens Next
Bookings, which opened last month ahead of today's official reveal, remain open through BMW's website and dealership network. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in October 2026.
