Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG Launched at Rs 9.99 Lakh

Mahindra has launched the XUV 3XO CNG, badged ZNG, at a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It is the third factory-fitted CNG compact SUV on sale in India, after the Tata Nexon iCNG and the Maruti Brezza S-CNG. Mahindra claims 24.7 km/kg, and the boot keeps a usable 270 litres thanks to a dual-cylinder layout.

The launch came on October 15, the date Mahindra had confirmed in its teaser. We covered the announcement earlier; this article has the full price list and specifications.

Price and Variants

The XUV 3XO CNG comes in four variants. Prices below are ex-showroom:

Variant CNG price
MX EdgeRs 9.99 lakh
RevX Edge (O)Rs 10.79 lakh
AX5Rs 11.19 lakh
RevX A (top)Rs 12.27 lakh

The gap between the base and top trims is Rs 2.28 lakh. One report notes that the MX Edge has no petrol equivalent, which means it is a CNG-only entry point, and puts the CNG premium over the matching petrol trims at about Rs 80,000 to Rs 1.19 lakh. We have not verified that comparison against Mahindra's petrol price list, so check the dealer sheet before you decide.

Engine and Performance

The CNG model uses the 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder mStallion engine. Mahindra lists about 110 to 111PS and 200Nm, with peak torque between 1,500 and 3,500rpm. Reports say these figures are the same as in the petrol version, helped by larger injectors working at 10 bar of pressure, though one report points out that the spec table does not list CNG-only output separately. Mahindra claims 0 to 60kmph in 4.9 seconds.

The gearbox is a six-speed manual only for now. A cabin switch changes between petrol and CNG.

Mileage Claim

The certified figure is 24.7 km/kg. That is an ARAI-style number measured under lab conditions, so traffic, load and driving style will bring it down in daily use.

Boot Space and Tank Layout

This was the open question at the teaser stage, and Mahindra has answered it. Two CNG cylinders sit side by side under a raised boot floor, which leaves storage space above them. One report gives the usable boot capacity as 270 litres, down from 364 litres on the petrol car. The same report lists the Nexon at 382 litres on petrol and 321 litres on CNG. A spare wheel is not mentioned in the reports we reviewed.

Features and Safety

Depending on the variant, the car offers a 10.25-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a sunroof, a 360-degree camera, a Harman Kardon sound system and cruise control. Safety includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX mounts, four disc brakes and rear parking sensors. One report adds Level-2 ADAS and a tyre pressure monitoring system, but feature availability differs by variant, so confirm what your variant gets.

How It Compares

The Nexon iCNG and Brezza S-CNG were listed earlier at Rs 8.35 to 13.42 lakh and Rs 9.4 to 11.76 lakh respectively. At Rs 9.99 lakh the 3XO CNG starts above the entry prices of both rivals (Rs 9.4 lakh and Rs 8.35 lakh), so it competes on features and its turbocharged engine rather than on the lowest price. Its trade-offs are a smaller boot than the petrol car and no automatic yet.
