Ather Energy has officially launched the Konarc, and the metal-body detail we'd been tracking through teasers is now confirmed in full. Prices start at Rs 99,999, ex-showroom, making the Konarc the first production scooter built on Ather's new EL platform — the company's first entirely new vehicle architecture since the platform underpinning the original 450 family.

Ather is splitting the Konarc into two distinct lines: S, positioned as the more accessible option, and Z, aimed at buyers wanting more equipment.

How the Variants and Pricing Actually Break Down

At launch, three Konarc S variants have confirmed pricing. The 100km version costs Rs 99,999, with deliveries scheduled for Q1 2027. The 125km version is priced at Rs 1,21,999, and the 161km version at Rs 1,44,999 — both of these are set to reach customers starting September 2026, ahead of the cheaper entry variant.

A fourth, longer-range 200km Konarc S has also been confirmed, though its price hasn't been announced yet, with deliveries planned for Q3 2027. The Konarc Z line, meanwhile, will launch with 125km and 161km range options, both listed as "coming soon" with deliveries targeted for Q2 2027.

That's a genuinely staggered rollout — buyers wanting the cheapest or longest-range variants will actually wait longer than those opting for the mid-tier options, which reach showrooms first.

The Metal Body Is Real, and It Changes the Construction

Confirming what we'd flagged from Ather's teaser video, the Konarc does move to a steel unibody chassis with metal body panels — a genuine departure from the plastic-bodied construction used across Ather's existing scooter lineup. It rides on a 14-inch front wheel paired with a 12-inch rear, running 90/90-14 and 100/90-12 tyres respectively.

Braking hardware varies by variant: the entry-level 100km model gets drum brakes at both ends, while the 125km and 161km versions step up to a 220mm front disc. Suspension travel comes in at 90mm front and 100mm rear, with a 1,352mm wheelbase — the longest of any Ather scooter to date, aimed at improving stability.

Ather has been explicit that EL wasn't designed chasing outright performance. Instead, the architecture prioritises lower manufacturing costs, simpler servicing, easier charging, and everyday usability — developed using 26 lakh kilometres of accumulated field data from Ather's existing fleet.

The practical payoff is meaningful: Ather says reducing the overall component count makes assembly roughly 15% faster and cuts periodic servicing time by as much as half. For a platform meant to underpin a whole family of future scooters rather than a single flagship model, that kind of manufacturing efficiency compounds significantly at scale.

Charging and Everyday Features

Charging times vary by battery size using the standard charger: 4 hours for the 100km version, 4 hours 30 minutes for the 125km variant, and 5 hours 40 minutes for the 161km model, all measured to 80% charge. With Ather's optional additional charger, those times drop to roughly 2 hours, 2 hours 25 minutes, and 3 hours 10 minutes respectively.

Ather Grid fast-charging access comes included on the 125km and 161km versions, and is available as a paid add-on on the entry 100km model — rated at 13km added per 10 minutes on the base model and 15km per 10 minutes on the larger-battery versions.

Everyday practicality gets real attention too: 31 litres of underseat storage, an 18W USB Type-C port, an underseat light, and reverse Park Assist. The top-spec Konarc Z adds Ather's Advanced Electronic Braking System (AeBS), which the company claims can boost peak braking force by up to 20% and reduce rear-wheel locking under hard braking, along with MagicKey keyless access.

Why This Launch Matters Beyond One Scooter

Ather isn't treating Konarc as a single, standalone product. The company has explicitly framed EL as a scalable platform meant to support multiple future scooter formats and price points sharing major components — the same playbook conventional two-wheeler manufacturers have used for decades to spread development costs across an entire model family rather than one vehicle.

For a company that's previously said it could have sold thousands more units had manufacturing kept pace with demand, a platform engineered specifically around faster assembly and lower servicing costs looks like a direct response to that constraint — positioning Ather to compete more aggressively in the high-volume commuter segment it's historically had less presence in.
