Aprilia SXR GT Launched, Prices From Rs 1.11 Lakh

Aprilia has revived its SXR maxi-scooter range with the new SXR GT, launched in India at Rs 1.11 lakh for the 125cc version and Rs 1.31 lakh for the 175cc, both ex-showroom Delhi. The GT range replaces the SXR 125 and SXR 160, which were discontinued earlier this year without a formal announcement or confirmed replacement at the time.

What's Actually Changed From The Outgoing SXR

Here's the core update. Aprilia has carried over the overall SXR design and silhouette — the tripod LED headlight, tall windshield, and maxi-scooter fairing all stay familiar — but moved both scooters up to 14-inch wheels from the outgoing model's 12-inch units, giving the GT range meaningfully more road presence and, typically, better stability at speed.

The engines come directly from Aprilia's SR siblings. The SXR GT 125 runs a 124.5cc single-cylinder unit producing 10.6hp at 7,400rpm and 10.4Nm at 6,200rpm. The SXR GT 175 steps up to a 174.7cc air-cooled single, making 13.3hp at 7,200rpm and 14.1Nm at 6,000rpm.

Where The Two Variants Actually Differ

Feature-wise, the range splits clearly by price point. The SXR GT 175 gets a 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity for music and call management, turn-by-turn navigation, and additional handlebar-mounted controls, paired with single-channel ABS. The SXR GT 125 uses a simpler 5-inch LCD instrument cluster instead, with Combined Braking System (CBS) rather than ABS — a genuine feature gap between the two models, not just a cosmetic difference.

Both scooters share the same braking hardware base — a 220mm front disc paired with a 140mm rear drum — differing only in whether ABS or CBS manages that system.

Aprilia is offering six new colours across the range. The SXR GT 175 comes in Metallic Blue, Matte Black, and Matte Green, with additional footboard graphics inspired by Aprilia's GT lineage. The SXR GT 125 gets its own distinct palette spanning Matte Black, Glossy Azzurro, and Glossy White. Bookings are open now at Aprilia dealerships nationwide.

Why Bringing Back A Discontinued Nameplate Makes Sense

Rather than launching an entirely new product line, Aprilia has chosen to revive and meaningfully upgrade an existing nameplate that already had some brand recognition in India's maxi-scooter segment. That's a reasonably low-risk strategy — the SXR name wasn't unfamiliar to Indian buyers, and refreshing it with genuinely larger wheels, updated engines, and a TFT option on the top variant gives Aprilia a renewed, more competitive product without building brand awareness entirely from scratch.

Where It Sits Competitively

The SXR GT 125 enters the market against the Suzuki Burgman Street, while the larger SXR GT 175 goes up against the Hero Xoom 160 — both established players in India's maxi-scooter segment. With TFT connectivity on the 175 and genuinely larger wheels across both variants, Aprilia is positioning the GT range to compete on technology and road presence rather than purely on price.

What This Means For Buyers

For anyone who'd considered the outgoing SXR before its quiet discontinuation, the GT range offers a genuine upgrade path — bigger wheels, a revised engine, and on the 175 specifically, a meaningfully more connected display than what the previous generation offered. With bookings open and pricing now confirmed, prospective buyers have everything they need to make a purchase decision, right as India's festive season buying window gets underway.
