Nexon Edges Punch by 123 Units in September SUV Sales

The Tata Nexon was India's best-selling SUV in September 2026, ahead of the Tata Punch by just 123 units. The ten best-selling SUVs together sold 1,58,719 units, up 21.88 per cent from a year ago and 5.82 per cent from August, according to Rushlane. These are wholesale dispatches, not retail registrations.

The September 2026 Top 10 SUVs

The Brezza, Victoris, Venue and XUV 3XO numbers match a separate AutoPunditz segment report, which gives us a second source for the table. The Venue's year-on-year change is our calculation from 11,466 and 11,484 units, since Rushlane calls it almost unchanged.

The Tata Duel

The Nexon fell 9.38 per cent year on year but still won, and the Punch grew almost 28 per cent. Together the two Tata models account for about 25.7 per cent of the top 10's volume. The Punch was the only SUV in the list to lose sales month on month.

The Newer Names Are Climbing

  1. Maruti Victoris: up 207.7 per cent year on year, with a gain of 8,850 units, the largest on the list. It is the best-selling midsize SUV after the Creta.
  2. Kia Seltos: up 116.5 per cent, and its best month of 2026, according to AutoPunditz.
  3. Maruti Brezza: up 54.18 per cent.
  4. Mahindra XUV 3XO: the strongest monthly jump, up 30.37 per cent, which is 2,521 more units than in August and larger than the Nexon's 2,025-unit gain.

The Midsize Picture

AutoPunditz puts the midsize SUV segment at 69,813 units in September, up 4.4 per cent on August. The Creta leads that group, 4,546 units ahead of the Victoris, and the Seltos trails the Victoris by only 518 units. Maruti's Grand Vitara (8,513) and Victoris together reached 21,624 units. The Tata Sierra sold 7,205 units, ahead of the Toyota Hyryder at 7,115.

Why It Matters

Maruti's Victoris is now ahead of established names such as the Seltos and the Venue, and the sub-4-metre group still supplies most of the volume. For the Nexon and Punch, the margin is thin enough that one strong month from the Fronx could change the order. Festive-season retail data for October will show whether these dispatches turn into deliveries. See the Nexon range on TATA.cars and the Victoris on Nexa.
