Maruti Fronx Hits 2 Lakh Exports, Fastest Ever

New Delhi, August 19, 2026Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the Fronx has crossed 2 lakh cumulative exports from India, making it the fastest SUV built in the country to reach the milestone.

The crossover hit the number in under 38 months. Exports began in June 2023.

The Numbers

The first 1 lakh units took close to 25 months. The next 1 lakh took just 13 months.

That is a sharp acceleration, and it lines up with fresh SIAM data. In Q2 CY2026 alone, the Fronx exported 23,803 units, retaining its spot as India's most exported passenger vehicle, up 3.17% year-on-year.

Where It Is Built, Where It Goes

Every export-spec Fronx rolls out of Maruti Suzuki's Hansalpur plant in Gujarat. From there, it ships to nearly 90 countries, including Japan — Suzuki's home market.

That last part matters. Very few Indian-built cars get exported back to Japan.

Company Statement

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, said the company's growing export volumes reflect global demand for its products, and pointed to India's expanding role as a manufacturing base for Suzuki vehicles.

The Fronx has held the number one export spot since FY2024-25. Maruti Suzuki has been India's largest passenger vehicle exporter for five straight years, and all three of the country's top exported vehicles in Q1 FY26-27 came from the brand.

What Comes Next

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly planning a midlife update for the Fronx, followed by a new strong-hybrid powertrain option in 2027. That setup is expected to be the company's first in-house series hybrid system, built around the existing 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine.

A flex-fuel variant is also said to be in development.
