Kia is set to officially launch the Sorento in India on September 4, and this particular unit was photographed parked alongside a Hyundai Creta and a Toyota Fortuner, giving a useful sense of just how much larger the Sorento actually is next to both familiar reference points.
A Different Variant Than What's Been Spied Before
Here's what makes this sighting genuinely useful, beyond just confirming the launch is imminent. This Sorento is noticeably less loaded than the fully-equipped version spotted in earlier spy shots. It runs a seven-seat layout with a conventional 60:40 split-folding second-row bench, rather than the more premium captain seats seen on the higher-spec unit photographed previously. Some other premium equipment visible on that earlier car is absent here too.
That's a meaningful data point for anyone trying to figure out how Kia plans to structure the Sorento's variant lineup in India — it strongly suggests buyers will get a genuine choice between six and seven-seat configurations, spread across multiple equipment tiers, rather than a single fully-loaded trim.

The biggest technical detail in these images is a DCT badge on the tailgate, confirming this particular unit runs Kia's 2.2-litre diesel engine, producing around 202hp and 441Nm, paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic. It's the same engine already doing duty in the Carnival MPV, currently on sale in India.
The hybrid petrol version, expected to arrive alongside the diesel, uses a different 1.6-litre engine mated to a 6-speed automatic, likely producing around 240hp and 380Nm — the same hybrid setup reportedly headed for the Carnival as well, once that update reaches India.
What the Cabin Actually Looks Like
This spied unit runs a light-coloured interior theme, a contrast to the brown cabin shown in Kia's earlier official teaser video for the Sorento. That difference points toward multiple interior colour options being offered depending on variant, rather than a single fixed cabin theme across the range.
Despite sitting below the range-topping trim, the equipment list on display is still substantial: a curved panoramic display combining the touchscreen infotainment and digital instrument cluster, leather upholstery, powered and ventilated front seats, Bose audio, soft-touch dashboard and door trim, and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel.
Genuine Attention to Third-Row Usability
Here's a detail that's easy to overlook but matters a lot for a three-row SUV: Kia has clearly put real thought into making the third row usable, not just present. Dedicated AC vents, cupholders, a Type-C charging port and a 12V socket are all fitted specifically for third-row passengers — equipment that a lot of rivals in this segment skip entirely for the rearmost seats.
Practical touches extend to the boot area too. Third-row seats fold via pull-straps accessible from the cargo area, while separate buttons in the boot let owners electrically release and fold the second-row seats as well, making it considerably easier to reconfigure the cargo space without climbing into the cabin.
