Global order books for the Range Rover Electric opened worldwide, and India isn't sitting this one out. JLR has confirmed bookings are now open in India too, with a token amount of Rs 10 lakh — a serious sum, but a fairly standard entry point for this segment of luxury EV.
Here's the detail that matters most for Indian buyers specifically: the Range Rover Electric will come to India via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route, imported directly from JLR's Solihull plant in the UK. There's no local assembly plan for this model, at least for now — every unit sold in India will be a fully imported vehicle.
What CBU Actually Means for Pricing
This matters more than it might seem. Fully imported vehicles carry significantly higher import duties compared to models assembled locally through CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits or local manufacturing. That's a direct cost that gets passed straight to the buyer, and it's part of why genuinely low-volume luxury EVs — like this one is likely to be in India — often carry pricing well above their equivalent cost in markets like the UK or US.
For context, the standard combustion Range Rover in India is already imported partially and assembled locally in some configurations to manage costs. Going full CBU for the Electric variant signals JLR is treating this specifically as a low-volume, top-tier flagship offering, not a mainstream volume play.
The Numbers Behind the Global Launch
The Range Rover Electric runs on a 118.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack built from 344 prismatic cells. Two electric motors, developed and manufactured entirely in-house by JLR, each produce 260kW (354PS), combining for a total output of 405kW (550PS) and up to 850Nm of torque.
Globally, JLR has priced the Electric close to the existing V8-powered Range Rover, rather than positioning it as a premium halo product sitting well above the combustion lineup. Whether that same relative pricing philosophy carries over to India, given the added CBU import costs, remains to be seen — Indian pricing hasn't been announced yet.
Why This Matters for India's Luxury EV Buyers
India's ultra-premium EV segment remains genuinely thin. Buyers looking at this price bracket currently have limited direct options — the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV and a handful of other imported flagship EVs make up most of the competitive set. A fully imported Range Rover Electric adds a genuinely credible new name to that short list, backed by decades of brand trust that Range Rover has built in India specifically around its combustion SUVs.

JLR hasn't yet confirmed India-spec pricing, delivery timelines, or which trim levels will actually be offered here — the global lineup spans SE through SV Ultra, and it's unclear whether India gets the full spread or a curated subset. Given the CBU route and Rs 10 lakh booking amount alone, expect final pricing to land well into premium territory once official numbers are announced.
For a brand whose reputation in India has been built almost entirely on the sound and presence of a V8, bringing its first electric model here via full import — rather than waiting for local assembly to bring costs down — signals JLR wants Indian buyers who want in early to have that option now, cost premium included, rather than waiting years for a more affordable local build.
