JSW MG Motor India has a new flagship, and it's arriving with two powertrains at once. The Hector Tomahawk goes on sale today in both fully electric and plug-in hybrid form, marking the first model built on the company's new ADAPT architecture.
The Tomahawk sits above the regular Hector in MG's lineup, and unlike a badge-engineered variant, it's a genuinely new SUV — the platform is what makes this launch worth paying attention to, not just the model itself.
Two Very Different Powertrains, One SUV
The EV version comes with a 69.2kWh LFP battery pack, a single electric motor producing 201bhp and 310Nm, and a claimed range of 517km. MG says it does 0-100kmph in 8.2 seconds. Pricing runs from Rs 19.49 lakh for the base Excite trim up to Rs 23.49 lakh for the top Essence variant, all in seven-seat configuration. A five-seat version is offered only in the Essence trim, priced at Rs 22.99 lakh.
The PHEV takes a completely different approach: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a 20.5kWh battery, combining for 198bhp and 230Nm, with an EV-only range of 115km and a claimed mileage of 40kmpl. Pricing for the plug-in hybrid starts at Rs 21.80 lakh for BaaS buyers, or Rs 25.70 lakh for outright purchase.
The BaaS Option Worth Knowing About
Here's a detail that could matter more to buyers than the sticker price suggests. MG is offering the Tomahawk under its Battery-as-a-Service programme, which drops the EV's starting price to Rs 13.99 lakh — a meaningful Rs 5.5 lakh lower than outright purchase. Under this scheme, buyers pay a separate battery rental of Rs 4.90 per kilometre.
That's a genuinely different ownership math than a straight purchase. For buyers with predictable, lower-mileage usage, BaaS pricing could make the Tomahawk considerably more accessible upfront, even if the per-km cost adds up over time for heavier users.
What You Get Inside
Feature-wise, MG hasn't held back on the top-spec variants: a 15.6-inch touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 10-speaker Infinity sound system, wireless charging, and rear window sunshades. Charging tech extends to V2V, V2L and V2H support, letting the Tomahawk power external devices or even a home during an outage.
Safety includes a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, and six airbags. There's also a slightly quirky but genuinely useful touch: Pro Pet mode, which keeps the air conditioning running even when the vehicle is locked.
Dimensions and Design
The SUV measures 4,745mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,770mm in height, riding on a 2,810mm wheelbase with 230mm of ground clearance — genuinely large numbers that put it in serious three-row SUV territory. Exterior details include LED projector headlamps with an illuminated MG logo, 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, roof rails, black wheel arch cladding, and a powered tailgate.
Where It Fits in the Market
The seven-seat EV goes up directly against the Mahindra XEV 9S and Kia Carens Clavis EV, both of which also offer three-row electric seating. The five-seat version instead competes with the Tata Harrier EV and Mahindra XEV 9e.
Timeline and Availability
Bookings are open now for a token amount of Rs 21,000, either online or at authorised dealerships. EV deliveries begin in September 2026, with PHEV deliveries following in November.
MG has also confirmed these launch prices are introductory, applicable only to a limited number of units — worth factoring in for anyone weighing whether to book early or wait.
For JSW MG, the Tomahawk isn't just another SUV addition. It's the first real-world proof of the ADAPT architecture the company unveiled earlier this year, and how well this launch performs will likely shape how quickly MG brings more ADAPT-based models to market.
