Mercedes-Maybach S 580e Launched at Rs 3.35 Crore

Mercedes-Benz has launched the facelifted Maybach S-Class in India, and the car comes with a twist: it is the first Maybach sold here with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The S 580e was priced on October 5 at Rs 3.35 crore (ex-showroom), and Mercedes has allocated just 30 units for the first batch.

That price is Rs 97 lakh above the S-Class Manufaktur Edition AMG Line, which tells you how far above the regular S-Class this car sits.

One Variant, One Powertrain

India gets only the S 580e. A 3.0-litre inline-six petrol engine makes about 443hp and 560Nm. An electric motor adds roughly 160hp and 480Nm, and a 22kWh battery feeds it. Combined output is around 580hp (585hp by one count, 578bhp by another, depending on the conversion used) and 750Nm, sent to all four wheels.

Mercedes claims an electric-only range of 98km and, on the WLTP cycle, a fuel efficiency figure of 34.48kpl. Plug-in hybrid efficiency numbers depend heavily on how often you charge, so do not read the second figure as everyday mileage.

Built for the Back Seat

The Maybach is a chauffeur's car, and the cabin shows it.

  1. A four-seat layout with a full-length business console
  2. Rear seats that recline to 43 degrees, with heating, ventilation and massage
  3. Nappa leather in crystal white and silver grey
  4. An MBUX Superscreen with a Maybach-specific graphical theme
  5. A 31-speaker Burmester 4D surround system
  6. Rose gold accents across the cabin

Reports also list an augmented-reality head-up display and dual rear entertainment screens with wireless headsets.

Why It Matters

The Maybach matters more to Mercedes India than its price suggests. The company says about half of its S-Class sales in India are of the Maybach version. That is a remarkable ratio and explains why the brand keeps investing in the nameplate. It also fits the company's broader record quarter, which we covered earlier.

What To Know Before You Book

Thirty units is a small allocation, so expect a waiting list. Import route and delivery timelines were not detailed in the sources we checked. For official specifications, see Mercedes-Benz India.

If you are considering one, ask the dealer about home charging installation and the real-world electric range, since a 98km claim will shrink with highway use and cold weather.
