Tesla Opens Bengaluru Experience Centre at VR Whitefield, Launches Model Y L Six-Seater at ₹61.99 Lakh

Tesla opened its third Indian experience centre at VR Whitefield, Bengaluru on May 14, 2026. The Model Y L six-seater was also launched at ₹61.99 lakh ex-showroom. After-sales service is now live in the city

Tesla has opened its first experience centre in South India at VR Bengaluru, Whitefield Main Road, Mahadevapura, effective May 14, 2026. This is the company's third location in India after Mumbai (BKC) and Delhi (Aerocity and Gurugram). Alongside the showroom launch, Tesla has also commenced after-sales service operations in Whitefield and debuted the Model Y L – a three-row, six-seat electric SUV priced from ₹61.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Model Y L – The New Six-Seater

The headline product at the Bengaluru launch is the Tesla Model Y L, a long-wheelbase variant of the standard Model Y designed specifically for family buyers. It holds an ANCAP five-star safety rating and is the first Tesla in India with three rows of seating.

Key specifications:

  1. Seating: 3-row, 6-seat configuration
  2. Battery: 83 kWh (shared with Model Y Long Range)
  3. Range: 681 km (WLTP cycle)
  4. 0-100 kmph: 5.0 seconds
  5. Cargo space: Up to 2,539 litres (rear rows folded)
  6. Starting price: ₹61.99 lakh (ex-showroom)

The Model Y L sits between the standard Model Y and the Long Range variant in terms of pricing. Both the Long Range and Model Y L share the same 83 kWh battery pack. Tesla says the third-row design prioritises headroom and legroom across all seating positions.

Full Tesla Model Y India Lineup – Current Pricing

Variant Battery Power Range (WLTP) Ex-Showroom Price
Model Y (Standard)64 kWh299 hp~430 km~₹41 Lakh
Model Y Long Range83 kWh340 hp~590 km~₹55 Lakh
Model Y L (6-Seater)83 kWh340 hp681 km₹61.99 Lakh

The standard Model Y runs a 64 kWh battery with a single 299 hp rear motor. The Long Range variant was recently updated with an 83 kWh pack and a 340 hp motor. The Model Y L uses the Long Range's drivetrain in a stretched body with the additional third row.

Why Whitefield, Bengaluru

The location choice is deliberate. Whitefield sits at the centre of Bengaluru's IT corridor – home to offices of Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, SAP, and dozens of multinational tech firms. The area has one of the highest concentrations of high-income professionals in South India, and the demographic skews heavily toward early technology adoption.

Bengaluru already leads most Indian cities in premium EV registrations. The city has a denser network of public EV chargers than most metros, supported by BESCOM (Bangalore Electricity Supply Company), Tata Power, Ather Grid, and ChargeZone. Karnataka's state EV policy also offers incentives including road tax exemptions for battery electric vehicles.

VR Bengaluru – the specific mall hosting the experience centre – draws significant footfall from the Whitefield tech crowd, making it a high-visibility location for walk-in traffic.

What's Available at the Experience Centre

The Bengaluru centre operates as a product showcase and test drive facility, not a traditional dealership. Key details:

  1. Location: VR Bengaluru, Whitefield Main Road, Mahadevapura, Bengaluru – 560048
  2. Operational from: May 14, 2026
  3. Vehicles on display: Model Y (Standard), Model Y Long Range, Model Y L (6-Seater)
  4. Test drives: Available – book online at tesla.com/en_in or walk in
  5. After-sales: Service operations now active in Whitefield
  6. Ordering: Online-only through Tesla's India website
  7. Home charging support: Available for Bengaluru customers

Tesla uses the title 'Product Specialist' for its showroom staff rather than 'sales executive'. There is no on-site negotiation or financing paperwork – the entire purchase process is handled through Tesla's website. The centre is open seven days a week.

After-Sales Service – A Critical Addition

The simultaneous launch of after-sales service in Bengaluru is arguably as important as the showroom itself. One of the biggest concerns for premium EV buyers in India is service accessibility – and until now, Tesla owners in Bengaluru had to rely on Mumbai or Delhi for any significant service requirements.

With Whitefield service operations now active, Bengaluru-based Tesla owners have local access to:

  1. Scheduled maintenance and servicing
  2. Warranty repairs
  3. Software diagnostics and updates
  4. Tyre and brake servicing
  5. Body and paint repairs

Tesla's service model in India combines fixed service centres with a mobile service fleet that can handle routine maintenance at the customer's home or office. Whether the Bengaluru operation includes mobile service from day one remains to be confirmed.

Tesla's Supercharger Status in Bengaluru

Charging infrastructure is critical context for any Tesla launch. The company's Supercharger network in India currently covers:

  1. Mumbai – Multiple locations
  2. Delhi NCR – Multiple locations
  3. Pune – Operational
  4. Bengaluru – Operational
  5. Hyderabad – Operational
  6. Chennai – Operational
  7. Key highway corridors – Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Delhi-Jaipur Highway

Tesla Superchargers deliver up to 250 kW, adding approximately 275 km of range in 15 minutes. All Indian Superchargers use the CCS2 connector, making them compatible with non-Tesla EVs as well. Additional Supercharger locations along the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway and Bengaluru-Chennai corridor are reportedly planned.

Tesla's India Timeline – For Context

  1. July 2025: First experience centre opened in BKC, Mumbai
  2. Late 2025: Delhi (Aerocity) and Gurugram centres opened
  3. March 2026: Model Y Long Range updated with 83 kWh battery
  4. May 14, 2026: Bengaluru (Whitefield) centre opened; Model Y L launched at ₹61.99 lakh
  5. Expected 2026: Hyderabad and Chennai experience centres (unconfirmed)

Tesla entered India with its first showroom in Mumbai in July 2025. The government's adjusted import duty structures for electric vehicles – including provisions under the India-UK FTA framework – have contributed to Tesla pricing its India lineup more competitively than initially projected. However, as a US-manufactured brand, Tesla does not directly benefit from either the India-UK or India-EU free trade agreements.

Competitive Landscape in Bengaluru

The Bengaluru premium EV market already has significant representation. Tesla enters a city where buyers have established options:

Brand Models Available Starting Price
TeslaModel Y, Model Y L₹41 Lakh
TataCurvv EV, Harrier EV₹17.49 Lakh
HyundaiIoniq 5 Facelift, Creta Electric₹17.99 Lakh
BYDSealion 7, Atto 3, Seal₹20.99 Lakh
BMWiX1, i4, i7₹50 Lakh
Mercedes-BenzEQS, EQE, CLA Electric₹55 Lakh
Ather Energy450X, 450S, Rizta (HQ in Bengaluru)₹1.40 Lakh (2W)

Tesla's differentiation in this market rests on its Supercharger network, over-the-air software updates, Autopilot driver-assistance features, and brand recognition among tech-sector buyers. The Model Y L's six-seat configuration also gives it a niche that no other premium EV currently occupies in India – a proper three-row electric SUV below ₹65 lakh.

Who Should Visit

If you're in Bengaluru and have been considering a premium electric vehicle, the Whitefield centre is worth a visit for the test drive alone. The Model Y's instant torque delivery and single-pedal driving experience are difficult to evaluate from spec sheets – they need to be felt.

The Model Y L specifically targets buyers who need family-size practicality in an electric package. At ₹61.99 lakh, it competes less with other EVs and more with premium ICE SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner, Jeep Meridian, and Skoda Kodiaq – offering a fundamentally different ownership proposition at a similar price point.

Walk-ins are accepted. Booking a test drive in advance through tesla.com/en_in is recommended, particularly on weekends.
