A patent filing does not usually get people talking.
This one has.
Hero MotoCorp has registered a design patent for a new dual-sport motorcycle. And almost everyone who has looked at it is saying the same thing — this is the Impulse, back from the dead.
Here is the thing — Hero has not confirmed anything. No name, no spec sheet, no launch date. Just a set of technical drawings filed with the patent office. But those drawings say a lot on their own.
What the Drawings Actually Show
The bike sits tall. Slim bodywork, an upright stance, a raised front mudguard.
A 19-inch front wheel pairs with a 17-inch rear, both spoked. That exact wheel combination was last seen on the original Impulse, and it works well for a bike meant to handle both tarmac and dirt.
The engine looks air-cooled, with no oil cooler in sight. That points to something smaller — likely in the 150-200cc range. A carburettor is visible too, which hints this version might be built primarily for export markets.
Think about it this way — Hero already has the Xpulse 200 and the upcoming Xpulse 421 covering the oil-cooled, more premium end of this segment. A simpler, air-cooled bike below that would slot in as the accessible entry point.
Why the Impulse Name Keeps Coming Up
Honestly, it is the small details that give it away.
The tail-lamp design borrows from the Xtreme 125R and Xpulse 210. The headlamp draws cues from the Xtreme 160R. But the tank shrouds and overall silhouette? Those pull straight from the old Impulse playbook.
The Impulse launched back in 2016 as India's first 150cc adventure bike. It got a loyal but small following, and Hero pulled the plug on it before it ever really took off. Nearly a decade later, the timing for a comeback makes sense — the entry-level ADV segment in India has only grown since then.
What Happens Next
A patent is not a promise. Plenty of filings never make it to a showroom floor.
But Hero is not slowing down its ADV plans elsewhere. The brand's biggest adventure bike yet, the Xpulse 421, is set to debut at EICMA 2026. That is a strong signal this segment is a real priority right now, not an afterthought.
The old Impulse never got a real chance. This next one might finally get one.
